Module 3
Putting QI Into Practice
The AIM statement is the starting point for any quality improvement effort. It turns a broad problem into a clear, measurable purpose that guides your work from the beginning.
A strong AIM statement should be:
- Clear, concise, measurable, and time-bound
- Tested using the SMART framework to ensure it is specific and actionable
- Used to translate a problem into a defined goal that supports measurement and testing
- Revisited and refined over time as new data and insights emerge
Rather than being static, the AIM statement is a living document that evolves as your understanding of the system improves.
