Maryland — State Partnership
Maryland EMSC Partnership Grant
Jan. 1, 1987 - Present
- Project Overview
- Goals:
1. Operationalize Pediatric Readiness for Maryland’s 49 emergency departments located within acute care hospitals and in freestanding emergency medical facilities through the development of specific criteria for each level and establishment of a recognition process that includes urban, suburban and rural EDs. Pediatric Readiness criteria will be developed and piloted during year 1 for each level of capability and then expand to include a minimum of 25% of hospitals in rural, suburban and urban areas within the grant period.
2. Collaborate with MIEMSS regional coordinators to recruit additional Pediatric EMS Champions in the 3 EMS Operational Programs (EMSOP) without one, finalize the Champion transition plan and handoff checklist, and convene a focus group to write a pediatric EMS recognition criterion that represents the diversity in Maryland’s EMSOPs by July 1, 2023.
3. Work in partnership with the four existing Maryland Health Care Coalitions to review, update and host exercises that utilize the Pediatric Annexes written in 2019 but not tested due to the response and ongoing mitigation due to CoVID 19. Facilitate regional dialogue that include the Pediatric EMS Champions, Pediatric Readiness ED Champions, and hospital/county emergency management representatives to identify existing pediatric disaster preparedness, response, and recovery plans and develop additional resources.
4: Expand the Maryland EMSC Family Advisory Network Council’s activities through outreach to rural EMS regions and hospitals for new members, development of a strategic plan for family participation in educational programs and widen the dissemination of the Right Care awards program to increase nominations by 20% each year of children and youth representing Maryland’s race, ethnicity and cultural identity.
5: Support the existing collaborative for pediatric EMS and ED quality improvement and data analysis with training on NEMSIS 3.X data for pediatric medical advisors, development of standardized pediatric EMS reports within Maryland eMEDS, and monitoring of compliance with statewide pediatric EMS protocols. - Institution
