EIIC/TREKK: Care of the Agitated Patient Algorithm

This algorithm guides emergency department teams in the assessment and management of the agitated pediatric patient. Developed in collaboration with EIIC and TREKK, it emphasizes safety, de-escalation strategies, appropriate medication use, and trauma-informed care to support effective, compassionate management of behavioral emergencies.

National Pediatric Readiness Project

The National Pediatric Readiness Project is an initiative of the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Program with support from multidisciplinary organizations. The project empowers emergency departments nationwide to improve their “pediatric readiness” or capability to care for acutely ill and injured children.

The EMSC Innovation and Improvement Center website is supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of an award (U07MC37471) totaling $2.5M with 0 percent financed with nongovernmental sources.
