- Project Overview
- Technology-assisted children (TAC) are currently an underserved population with repsect to emergency medical services (EMS) systems.
Goals: (1) improve the quality of prehospital emergency care rendered to children who depend on medical technology; (2) require acute care facilities or other facilities to notify the State EMS agency, community hospitals, and local EMS providers about TAC discharged within their area; (3) develop a CD-ROM interactive training program designed to train rural and urban emergency care providers (prehospital and hospital/clinic personnel, school health nurses, home health nurses, respite care providers, and others) in the emergency support of children who are technology dependent; (4) design protocols and algorithms for the emergency care of children who depend on medical technology; (5) develop a database program to prospectively track EMS utilization and to link TAC with EMS runs. - Institution
