Project Overview
The objective of the project is to provide evidence for a high-quality ED-based asthma intervention by determining the impact of ED-based education on the systems for asthma care delivery that include the ED, the primary care physician, and the families of children with acute asthma exacerbations. The goals of this project are to (1) determine how tailored asthma education in the ED utilizing the Baylor Asthma Care for Kids Educational Resource (BACKER) intervention effects health care utilization; (2) determine how family/patient satisfaction is affected by tailored asthma education in the ED; (3) describe how primary care providers (PCP) perceive and utilize automated computerized care information on patients receiving tailored asthma education in the ED; (4) determine how length of stay in the ED is affected by the delivery of tailored education in the ED.
