Building Relationships and Partnerships

Sustaining the Work for Long-Term Impact and Success

PMHCAs don’t work in isolation. Many organizations offer proven tools, training, data dashboards, and consultative support that can be integrated into your local efforts. Establishing a strong partner network not only prevents duplication of work but also builds lasting systems of care that improve continuity, optimal access, and efficiency in pediatric mental health.

How to Build Collaborative, Resource-Rich Partnership

  • Tap Into Trusted National and Regional Networks
    • EIIC: Pediatric readiness resources, quality improvement guides, data dashboards
    • HRSA & AAP: Mental health training modules, toolkits, advocacy support
    • State Mental Health Agencies: Local referral networks, crisis line coordination, tailored and responsive resources

  • Local System Coordination
    • Connect with local community-based behavioral health providers and school health teams.
    • Build warm referral workflows with mobile crisis services, telepsychiatry platforms, and primary care networks.
    • Align with pediatricians, EMS, child welfare, etc, where possible.

  • Practical Strategies
    • Say yes to visibility opportunities like grand rounds, lunch and learns, and community events.
    • Ask for introductions to funders from colleagues and champions.
    • Reach out early to hospital foundations, community leaders, and grant agencies. Relationships often lead to funding before applications are ever submitted.
