April is Pediatric Sepsis Awareness Month, a critical time to raise awareness about the early identification and treatment of sepsis in children. Pediatric sepsis remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, and studies show that 8% of children hospitalized with severe sepsis were evaluated in the emergency department (ED) just days before admission—and sent home. These missed warning signs can lead to delayed treatment and significantly worse outcomes.

To support better outcomes for children, the EMSC Program has released a new Pediatric Education and Advocacy Kit (PEAK): Sepsis, a comprehensive resource designed for prehospital and hospital-based providers.

PEAK: Sepsis – your go-to resource for pediatric sepsis management

The PEAK: Sepsis toolkit is designed to help clinicians recognize the early signs of pediatric sepsis and deliver timely, evidence-based care. This free, open-access resource offers:

  • Practice guidelines
  • A full pediatric sepsis simulation toolkit
  • Interactive learning modules
  • Podcast, implementation guide, and more

Whether you're an ED nurse, emergency physician, or EMS clinician, PEAK: Sepsis delivers the practical, multidisciplinary guidance needed to improve pediatric sepsis outcomes. Access the PEAK: Sepsis Toolkit here.

Join the movement: Promote pediatric sepsis awareness

Take action by sharing the PEAK: Sepsis resources with your colleagues and community. Use the toolkit to train your team, enhance your protocols, and raise awareness about the importance of early pediatric sepsis identification. Together, we can reduce preventable pediatric deaths and empower providers with life-saving knowledge.
