This is the second of five episodes on pediatric seizures in the pre-hospital field. In this episode we discuss first priorities in seizure management, specifically supporting the airway, breathing, and circulation while a child is seizing. We give some practical tips that will make your approach to the scene less stressful.
In this episode we break down the ideal and simple treatment protocol. It is a high priority to get benzodiazepines on board. The good news is you don’t have to place an IV right away. You can give midazolam intranasal or intramuscular- just get it in!
We have covered what seizures look like, to prioritize the ABC’s and stop the seizures-even pick the nose (consider intranasal meds)! In this episode we dive into the key history, physical exam, and documentation practices you can use in the field.
