Pediatric Education and Advocacy Kit (PEAK): Blunt Head Trauma

Blunt head trauma is a common reason for emergency evaluation, accounting for over 640,000 ED visits among children 14 and under and approximately 18,000 hospitalizations each year in the United States (CDC, 2018). Most injuries are minor and result from falls, sports, or motor vehicle crashes, with a very low risk of clinically important traumatic brain injury. However, rare serious injuries can have lasting consequences, making timely recognition essential. PEAK Blunt Head Trauma was developed to support ED and EMS clinicians in delivering evidence-based care across the injury spectrum and to help families recognize warning signs, understand recovery expectations, and know when to seek further care.
