Participants

This Community of Practice is open to past PRQC participants and current NPRQI users interested in working towards accelerating improvements in pediatric emergency care. Participants may or may not have previous quality improvement experience. Previous QI experience is not required.

Benefits to participating:

  • New opportunities to network with EDs from across the nation who are also interested in and passionate about promoting pediatric readiness within their ED.
  • Collaborate with other participants overcoming barriers and implementing changes within their EDs.
  • Exchange and share valuable resources and experiences with other participants.

Structure

The Community of Practice will be launched in March 2024 and will run for one year based on the participating team’s needs and progress. It will consist of sessions on the third Tuesday of the month from 1100-1230 CT. Attending sessions is encouraged; however, the team may identify one person to join the sessions and report to their team. These sessions will be recorded and shared with those who are unable to attend.

Talk with an Expert- A place for participants to come together and discuss their work related to the selected area of focus, specifically what's working, what gaps remain, opportunities for shared problem solving, and opportunities to address questions related to QI efforts.

NPRQI Office Hours-

Whether you have just joined NPRQI on your quality improvement journey or you have been using NPRQI for a while, we invite you to register for office hours for support with getting started, entering data, and understanding your performance dashboard. This is also a place to ask questions about implementing your quality improvement work. We look forward to assisting you and making a difference in pediatric emergency care! Look out for opportunities to attend one-on-one meetings hosted monthly by the NPRQI team.

Focus Areas

This CoP will continue to build on the following clinical areas of focus:

  • Pain assessment
  • Abnormal vital sign reassessment
  • Suicide
  • Measuring and recording pediatric weights in kilograms only

Quality Improvement Efforts

Teams will be asked to participate in active discussions regarding their experiences and offer support to other participants within the CoP.

Participating sites will be encouraged to utilize the National Pediatric Readiness Quality Initiative (NPRQI). NPRQI is the implementation arm of the National Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP) and serves as the primary platform for the Pediatric Readiness Quality Collaborative (PRQC). NPRQI provides a free, secure, web-based platform that allows EDs to track quality metrics and performance. The platform supports local quality improvement efforts and standardization of care through nationally vetted, evidence-derived metrics that have been shown to improve the healthcare outcomes of children.
