Your team’s roadmap to success outlines the steps necessary for improvement. This page guides your ED team through the collaborative process, from completing registration and submitting baseline data to implementing cycles of improvement. By following these steps, your team will gain practical experience, monitor progress using NPRQI data, and prepare to enhance Pediatric Readiness in your ED.
Now that your ED has signed up for the 2026 NPRQI Collaborative, the next steps are:
- Complete your NPRQI registration and submit your Participant Organization Agreement (POA):
- New sites: Register and submit a signed POA
- Existing sites: Submit an updated POA
- Submit baseline performance data
- Enter at least 30 patient encounters into NPRQI
- Review your ED’s performance compared to national and cohort benchmarks
- Complete the 2026 NPRP Assessment (March–May 2026)
- Use the collaborative tools and coaching to prepare your site
- Implement a QI project to improve pediatric patient care
- Select a clinical area of focus and identify pediatric quality measures to improve
- Apply intervention bundle guides tailored to your focus area
- Attend fireside chats and monthly collaborative sessions for guidance and peer learning
- Track progress through NPRQI data entry
Your NPRQI dashboard will display real-time progress, benchmark comparisons, and improvement trends.

NPRQI’s quality measures help EDs focus on improvement efforts on key pediatric outcomes. This collaborative will focus on four clinical areas and their associated measures:
Pain Assessment
- Percentage of pediatric patients with pain assessed
Abnormal Vital Sign Reassessment
- Percentage of high acuity pediatric patients with vital signs re-assessed
Suicide Screening and Management
- Percentage of adolescent patients (12yrs +) who had a structured suicide screen
- Percentage of patients with a positive suicide screen who had a structured suicide assessment
- Percentage of patients with a positive suicide screen who had a consultation with a licensed mental health professional
- Percentage of discharged patients with a positive suicide screen who received a discharge safety plan
Head Trauma
- Percentage of pediatric patients with a full set of vital signs obtained
- Percentage of pediatric patients with a Glasgow Coma Scale reassessment
- Percentage of pediatric patients with a head CT that met one or more of the PECARN criteria
- Percentage of pediatric patients who received hypotonic saline
ED Site Team Leader
- Main point of contact for your team and EMSC staff
- Complete registration and submit POA
- Gain access to the NPRQI data platform
- Coordinate and lead team meetings with ED staff as needed
- Attend monthly learning sessions
- Ensure the team receives updates and attends sessions
- Lead QI project planning, implementation, and presentation
ED Site Team Members
- Attend team meetings and monthly sessions
- Contribute to defining SMART aims and quality measures
- Collect and enter data, and share progress internally
- Present results and lessons during collaborative sessions
You can earn professional development credits (CNE/MOC Part 4) while advancing your PECC’s leadership in QI. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 15456, for 1 contact hour.
Estimated Time Commitment
Teams are encouraged to join monthly collaborative sessions and fireside chats with experts. Recorded sessions are available for those who cannot attend live.
On average, teams spend 4 to 8 hours each month on planning, testing strategies, and reviewing data. Consistent, small efforts can lead to significant improvements in pediatric emergency care.
The collaborative follows a four-phase structure from January 2026 to June 2027.
