Communications strategist contract position

  • ~10 month contract position
  • Up to 100 hours/month
  • $60/hour (flexibility for senior-level experience)
  • 100% remote

We are seeking a communications strategist for two federally funded initiatives related to improving pediatric emergency care: the National Pediatric Readiness Quality Improvement Initiative and an emergency medicine-focused collaboration with the Pediatric Mental Health Care Access Program. The initiatives are independent from each other but share common themes, experts, and communications needs. They are both based out of the Emergency Medical Services for Children Innovation and Improvement Center (EIIC).

You will work with a team of leading clinical, quality improvement, research and other experts from across the country and have support from EIIC's in-house communications team, including a director of communications, graphic designer, web development team, and others. You will typically leverage the existing channels and audiences of EIIC and its partners vs. having to build your own. (E.g. social media content can be posted on the EIIC’s accounts vs. creating accounts for each initiative; web content will also exist on EIIC’s website.)

Responsibilities

  • Become deeply and rapidly familiar with each initiative's unique purpose and goals as well as EIIC’s and partners’ available communications resources and channels
  • Using this knowledge, craft or refine communications strategies, including related SMART aims, for each initiative
    • Engage each initiative’s team in plan development and ensure shared understanding of approach, priorities, scope, and limitations
    • Balance the depth of the plans with need to move quickly, given 1-year timeframe
  • Implement the plan using a fully array of communications channels and formats, including content development, design and support for:
    • Websites
    • Print publications (infographics, annual reports)
    • Multimedia marketing resources (videos)
    • Promotional toolkits for partners
    • Webinars and other presentations
    • Eblasts and newsletter articles
    • Social media

You will be responsible for communications strategy, content development, and project management, but will have the support of the in-house communications team for strategic guidance and specialized expertise (e.g. graphic design, web, video).

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience in communications or marketing, including experience in a health care or nonprofit setting. The ideal candidate will have a college degree in a communications-related field. Candidates must provide the following portfolio examples:

  • Example communications strategy or planning document
  • Website development example
  • One sample marketing piece (e.g. reports, slide decks, newsletters, infographics, flyers)
  • Long-form writing example

To apply for this contract position, please complete this form by Sept. 27. For questions, email communications@emscimprovement.center.
