In 1984, Congress enacted legislation authorizing the creation of the EMSC Program - the only federal program dedicated to serving acutely ill and injured children. In 1985, Congress appropriated initial funds for EMSC, and the first program grant announcements were published. Beginning January 1, 2024, the program will celebrate four decades of progress toward its mission of high-quality emergency care for children across the nation.
