This QI Collaborative is open to PMHCA professionals interested in working towards accelerating improvements in pediatric emergency care through expansion into emergency departments (EDs).
Structure
In its first year of funding (2022), the EIIC partnered with seven PMHCA teams to ldo the following.
- Assessed operations and capacity for expansion to EDs.
- Conducted focus groups and one-on-one meetings for PMHCAs to share engagement strategies with EDs.
- Evaluated stages of PMHCAs' work, including familiarity with quality improvement science.
- Developed the Technical Assistance (TA) Toolkit (ED Expansion Toolkit).
In the second year of funding (2023), the EIIC launched the PMHCA Quality Improvement (QI) Collaborative. The primary purpose of this collaborative was to educate PMHCAs on applying QI tools and methods to their work and to improve their strategies for engaging with EDs. The EIIC team continued to conduct TA webinars covering various topics related to ED expansion.
In the third year of funding (2024), PMHCA is continuing the QI collaborative to do the following.
- Do a deeper exploration of QI tools.
- Apply QI tools to the work of (PMHCA programs.
- Introduction of 1:1 coaching for participating teams.
- QI Coaches will collaborate closely with PMHCAs on specific ED expansion efforts.
Focus Area
This collaborative will help to bridge gaps in youth mental health care, ensuring timely and effective support in emergency settings.
