Pediatric Readiness in Emergency Medical Services Systems

Resource availability and pediatric readiness across EMS agencies are variable. Providing high-quality EMS care to children requires an infrastructure designed to support the care of pediatric patients and their families. Therefore, it is important that EMS physicians, administrators, and EMS personnel collaborate with pediatric acute care experts to optimize EMS care through the development of care models to minimize morbidity and mortality in children as a result of illness and injuries.

Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Project

The Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Project (PPRP) is an initiative of the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Program with support from multidisciplinary organizations. PPRP empowers EMS and fire-rescue agencies to become "Pediatric Ready," or prepared to provide high-quality care for children in accordance with national recommendations.

The Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP) is supported by the EMSC Program through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of an award (U07MC37471) totaling $2.5M with 0 percent financed with nongovernmental sources.
