PEAK: Procedural Sedation is part of the Pediatric Education and Advocacy Kit (PEAK) series from the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Innovation & Improvement Center. It provides emergency and prehospital clinicians with evidence-based guidance and tools for safely performing procedural sedation in children. The kit includes clinical guidelines, dosing charts, safety checklists, educational videos, and infographics covering patient selection, monitoring, and post-sedation care.
The purpose of this evidence-based guideline is to standardize care for children undergoing procedural sedation receiving minimal, moderate, or deep sedation for acute diagnostic, therapeutic or minor surgical procedures outside the OR at Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH).
This report was developed through a collaborative effort of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry to offer pediatric providers updated information and guidance in delivering safe sedation to children.
The purpose of this guideline is to serve as a resource for practitioners who perform unscheduled procedural sedation regardless of location or patient age
