The National Association of State EMS Officials (NASEMSO) Pediatric Emergency Care (PEC) Council discerned a need for a simple tool to help State EMS Offices identify where possible gaps might still exist in the area of pediatric disaster preparedness. The report of the National Commission on Children and Disasters was used as a guide in developing checklist items that might assist in identifying potential gaps; perhaps in the process further educating State EMS Office personnel in the area of disaster planning.

Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Project

The Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Project (PPRP) is an initiative of the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Program with support from multidisciplinary organizations. PPRP empowers EMS and fire-rescue agencies to become "Pediatric Ready," or prepared to provide high-quality care for children in accordance with national recommendations.

The Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP) is supported by the EMSC Program through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of an award (U07MC37471) totaling $2.5M with 0 percent financed with nongovernmental sources.
