NPRQI Team

Kate Remick, MD, FAAP, FACEP, FAEMS

Executive Director

Dr. Remick is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Texas at Austin, Co-Director of the National Pediatric Readiness Project, and Executive Lead for the EMSC Innovation and Improvement Center. She is board-certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and Emergency Medical Services. Her primary focus is system-level readiness to support the delivery of high-quality emergency care to children across the healthcare continuum.

Beth Edgerton, MD, MPH, FAAP

Director of Strategic Partnerships & Innovation

Dr. Edgerton brings her experience as the federal lead of EMSC and the National Pediatric Readiness Project. She leads the development of the data dictionary, implementation guides, and strategic partnerships. She has a background in health services research, strategic planning, and data registries. Dr. Edgerton is trained in Pediatrics at Harbor UCLA with a master’s degree in Public Health from UCLA. She also is a previous Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar.

Krystle Bartley, MA

Director, Quality Improvement Initiatives

Krystle Bartley earned a bachelor of science in Psychology from Xavier University of Louisiana and attained her master’s degree at the University of Houston–Clear Lake. Her work in quality improvement began in the Quality & Safety Department at Texas Children’s Hospital. Krystle has expertise in the development and implementation of quality improvement collaboratives specifically focused on pediatric care for the State of Texas and nationally. She has a special niche in developing balanced scorecards using the Delphi process. Her affiliation with EMSC began in 2016 with the launch of the Pediatric Facility Recognition Collaborative and continues today with the targeted work of NPRQI.

Louis Gonzales, MPH, CPPS, CPHQ, LP

Director, Strategic Planning & Operations

Louis Gonzales’ background spans careers in engineering with a focus on systems analysis and improvement, health care quality with emphasis on patient safety, and more than 30 years in emergency medical services as both an EMS practitioner and administrator. He also serves as the Director of Operations for the EMSC Innovation and Improvement Center. Within the NPRQI, he supports operations including website development/maintenance, improvement science support, and planning as well as serving as technical liaison to Clario.

Liza Hinojosa, BS

Senior Program Coordinator

Liza Hinojosa brings over 25 years of experience working with CDC and Health Resources and Services Administration-funded programs. She has knowledge and experience with public health program design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation. Her work with social determinants of health, access to care, health equity, and quality assurance brings a comprehensive and coordinated perspective on program complexities, best practices, and sustainable solutions.

Sanyukta (Sanya) Desai, MD, MSc

Executive Data Strategist

Dr. Desai is a fellowship-trained pediatric hospitalist with experience in clinical research using multicenter and administrative data, including large registries. Throughout her career, she has provided pediatric care at non-children’s hospitals and has experience in partnering with general EDs to improve pediatric care delivery. She has received funding to use registries to study pediatric care in a network of non-children’s hospitals. Her current area of focus is standardizing and improving the interfacility transfer process, with a focus on reducing potentially avoidable transfers.
