Project Overview
The Mississippi EMSC program is designed to provide education and health resource information to pre-hospital providers, pediatric care givers, and the community. The overall goal is to enhance the pediatric emergency care system throughout the state of Mississippi by providing education opportunities and programs that will ensure that our children receive the best care possible. Our objectives are: 1) Incorporate pediatric representation on the Mississippi EMS Advisory Council. 2) Ensure prehospital provider agencies in Mississippi have pediatric emergency care coordinators in all agencies. 3) Ensure pediatric educational opportunities are available for pre-hospital providers and ED pediatric champions. 4) Establish criteria for pediatric equipment skills check off and reporting. 5) Develop a statewide guideline for inter-facility pediatric transfer. 6) Ensure hospitals are equipped to manage pediatric emergencies during a disaster. 7) Establish criteria for hospitals recognized through a statewide, territorial standardized system that is able to stabilize or manage pediatric medical emergencies. Many times the general public believes that every hospital is capable of treating a pediatric patient, when not all hospitals are equipped or staffed for pediatric medical emergencies.
