Project Overview
Given the status of the District of Columbia (DC) as the nation’s capital, its increased visibility to Congress, and its role as a venue for important national and international events, it is especially important to ensure an Emergency Medical Services for Children’s presence within the DC EMS system. The District of Columbia’s State Partnership Program aims to assess and enhance pediatric EMS system capacity, including measures of training maintenance and development of EMSC permanence in the municipal public health infrastructure. In order to do so, the project will undertake the task of establishing and maintaining distinct data elements outlined in the EMSC performance measures. The elements to be tracked include: assuring the availability of interfacility transfer guidelines and agreements, EMS provider's competencies on pediatric equipment, creating a regionalized system for both trauma and pediatric facility recognition for medical emergencies in tandem with the National Pediatric Readiness Project (NPRP) data. Supporting the Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator (PECC) position. Engaging the EMSC Advisory Committee to assure the integration of pediatric components into EMS systems; supporting the pediatric representative on the Mayor’s EMS Advisory Committee: Evaluative criteria to assess progress are directly tied to the targets and temporal phasing laid out in the federal programmatic performance measures; qualitative indicators specific to local jurisdictional characteristics will also be utilized.
