EMS providers treat seriously ill or injured pediatric patients to a lesser degree than adult patients, which can result in a deterioration of pediatric skills over a relatively brief period of time. The Federal EMSC program requires that all states work to increase the number of EMS agencies in their state that have a process in place requiring EMS providers to physically demonstrate the correct use of pediatric-specific equipment. Frequent practice of skills can improve readiness to care for pediatric patients. A set of checklists were developed by the Illinois EMSC Pediatric Prehospital Committee to assist in evaluating prehospital personnel as they demonstrate specific prehospital pediatric skills. These checklists are also available in a fillable format.
