ASPR TRACIE: Pediatric Topic Collection

Brought to you by HHS ASPR, the Technical Resources, Assistance Center, and Information Exchange (TRACIE) was created to meet the information and technical assistance needs of many. Since ASPR TRACIE’s launch in 2015, their staff and Subject Matter Experts have developed resources to support healthcare system preparedness, public health preparedness, and disaster clinical professionals plan for, respond to, and recover from all hazards disasters and emergencies.

Of particular interest to the EMSC community is the recent comprehensive refresh of the Pediatric Topic Collection.

The Natural Hazards Center is a federally funded program with partners from the public and private sector and academia. This Pediatric Disaster Preparedness toolkitprovides numerous resources for supporting children during a disaster.

Children Count in Disasters

Children are growing up in a nation and world affected by more frequent and intense disasters. The Natural Hazards Center and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention partnered to provide to a wide audience a special collection of recent research on children and disasters.

This collection includes original briefs from experts in public health, medicine, psychology, sociology, urban planning, and other disciplines. Read the articles in the series, Children and Disasters Special Collection.

Training Scenarios

  • House Fire

    Use these tools to simulate a house fire scenario and practice using the triage strategy used in your region.

    Learning objectives include:

    1. Accurately triage patients using the local triage strategy
    2. Explain the rationale behind each of their triage decisions
    3. When necessary, correctly manage the airway and assess the pulse of disaster victims
    4. Triage all 10 patients in 7 minutes or less
