While over 80% of the nation’s children are evaluated in general emergency departments (EDs), not all EDs have the proper equipment, supplies, medications to provide high-quality care for these patients (ref). The same is true for EMS agencies. Nearly 40% of all EMS agencies in the U.S. see fewer than thirteen pediatric patients per year on average (Shah, Prehosp Emerg Care, 2008).

The overall mission of the collaborative is to:

  1. Train EMS professionals, clinical staff, physicians and EMSC State Partnership programs on the seven pediatric readiness areas of focus
  2. Support each in implementing at least one pediatric-focused improvement at their agency or institution
